Will serve Hartford’s northeast / north end neighborhood. The project is part of the federally designated Promise Zone; high poverty, high crime areas that will receive grants and other federal assistance in raising the community.
A large part of the library program will be dedicated to adult education, training, and assistance for finding and maintaining employment. There will also be a large food kitchen/pantry accessible to those in need.
Design goals include colorful, flexible spaces with intuitive wayfinding and acoustic qualities that encourage collaboration in a welcoming and safe environment.
Programming is designed to connect the community offering digital opportunities and outdoor engagement, social & career services, digital and financial literacy
programs are planned.
HPL received $5.5 million towards the project from the State Library and City of Hartford.
